The official overnet version 0.53.3 has serious, known problems. A semi-official overnet-0.53.3-tim release was made to correct these problems. The overnet-0.53.3.ebuild should be modiffied so that the SRC_URI points to http://download.overnet.com/overnet-0.53.3-tim.tar.gz which contains the fixes. Also, overnet and edonkey 1.0.1 were released but they need ed2k-gtk-gui version 0.6.3 which was not yet released but will be shortly. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. 2. 3.
Oops... just noticed that the ebuild does point to the tim version... .. sorry. I'll leave this open for the new versions though.
There's also a new graphical edonkey linux client: http://forum.edonkey.com/viewtopic.php?t=68936
A new version (1.0.2) of the edonkey/overney command line hybrid was released: http://forum.edonkey.com/viewtopic.php?t=69313 Note that now the former edonkey command line client is actually an edonkey/overnet hybrid. The overnet command line client is the same as before though.
OK.... ed2k-gtk-gui v0.6.3 is out. Also, from what they say on the website, it will _not_ work with older versions of the command line clients. I haven't tried it yet so I can't confirm this.
bumped both ed2k-gtk-gui and overnet
Shouldn't this bug be left open until endonkey is also bumped in portage?
I'm reopening this since the edonkey/overnet hybrid 1.0.2 was added as overnet-1.0.2 instead of as donkey-1.0.2. There's a sepparate 1.0.1 "overnet-only" overnet version. I, for one, want to use only overnet and not the hybrid. There's also a graphical edonkey client. Writing an ebuild for that shouldn't be very difficult since it is also a binary package.
i am still for removing net-p2p/donkey. overnet.com offers the hybrid for you on windows and linux, and i couldn't find an overnet only version. Furthermore i see no disadvantages using the hybrid instead of only eDonkey.
Here's the overnet-only command line client: http://forum.edonkey.com/viewtopic.php?t=69145 As everybody around here is saying, Gentoo is all about choice. If you don't mind using the hybrid that doesn't mean everybody feels the same. _I_ for one don't, and maybe there are others like me. I hope you don't take this the wrong way; it's not meant to be aggressive or anything. ;)
What would it take to fix this? Would you like mw to provide patches for the ebuilds?... this should be pretty trivial.
> Would you like mw to provide patches for the ebuilds? Sorry... this should be more like "Would you like me to provide an ebuild for the overnet 1.0.1 command line client?" since it is not in portage and patches are usually for fixes to currently available ebuilds. Please correct me on this if I've got it the wrong way.
That would be greatly appreciated- I am under a heavy load right now and any help would be very welcome!
Created attachment 43487 [details] overnet-1.0.1.ebuild I'll also upload an ebuild for donkey-1.0.2. The current ebuild (overnet-1.0.2.ebuild) installs everything in the tgz archive, which is suboptimal.
Created attachment 43488 [details] donkey-1.0.2.ebuild Why it was decided by Gentoo that this should be called donkey instead of edonkey is beyond me.
there are now separate packages in portage
