Description Frank Daniel 2017-04-16 21:52:40 UTC
Has anybody tried to install/verify gentoo using the present documentation?
I have found some holes. Like using Systemd rather than RC. The documentation to use systemd says (points to) the systemd document. But the systemd document doesn't show how to emerge the source files nor how to use "make menu" or emerge genkernel to make the required/wanted kernel changes.

Additionally, Using the systemd document on wiki. After creating the kernel and boot. The document calls for the use of commands that are not available after the initial installation.
None of the 'systemctl' work.

openrc is the primary system on gentoo, but I agree, that it can not hurt to have a working documentation for systemd too.
I fear it is not efficient to work on this via bug tracker.

The best would be to share your experience on the wiki and perhaps contact the systemd team via IRC https://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/Project:Systemd, or get help on #gentoo.

I do not know which wiki documents you are referring to. Links would be helpful.

https://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/Systemd is not intended as a start from scratch guide.

For new installations, you should refer to the handbook. https://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/Handbook:AMD64

If you have improvements, you can suggest them on the wiki talk pages.
