I ran: emerge '=app-office/libreoffice-5.3.2.2' and while dev-libs/libixion-9999 seemed to emerge without errors, '=dev-libs/liborcus-0.12.1' fails its configure tests: checking for LIBIXION... no configure: error: Package requirements (libixion-0.12 >= 0.12.0) were not met: No package 'libixion-0.12' found Consider adjusting the PKG_CONFIG_PATH environment variable if you installed software in a non-standard prefix. Alternatively, you may set the environment variables LIBIXION_CFLAGS and LIBIXION_LIBS to avoid the need to call pkg-config. See the pkg-config man page for more details. !!! Please attach the following file when seeking support: !!! /var/tmp/portage/dev-libs/liborcus-0.12.1/work/liborcus-0.12.1/config.log My guess is that libixon's upstream source has gone up to a new release series (like 0.13.x) since the dev-libs/libixion-9999 ebuild was last updated, so now instead of providing an experimental version of dev-libs/libixion-0.12.x it provides an experimental version of dev-libs/libixion-0.13.x. attachment.cgi is still failing to respond for me so I can't upload the config.log (the first time I tried to file this bug it failed to upload and the bug report couldn't be submitted because of it) so here it is on a pastebin service: http://paste2.org/6GcdCLZd. empv

Nothing is forcing you to emerge libixion-9999 though, or is there a specific reason you have it unmasked?
Portage unmasked it (of course it asked me and I needed to update my config files with etc-update, but still) when I ran: emerge '=app-office/libreoffice-5.3.2.2'
Don't trust portage autounmask, always add second thoughts.
So are you saying if I run: emerge '=app-office/libreoffice-5.3.2.2' '=dev-libs/libixion-0.12.2' after unmasking libixion-0.12.2 it should work? I'll give it a go anyway.
Regardless of whether this works (so far it seems to be though), this is still a valid bug as the liborcus-0.12.1 ebuild needs to be updated so that libixion-9999 can't be used to satisfy the libixion build dependency. Right?
That is true - but it only becomes a pressing issue when there is a 0.13 version bump entering tree. With 9999 ebuilds you assume breakage that may or may not be resolved the next time you rebuild. Even though in this case we know it will not happen... Bottom line, don't let autounmask slip 9999 versions onto your system, it is almost always wrong.
Emerge of libreoffice-5.3.2.2 with libixion-0.12.2, thanks.
Thanks, fixed in git commit 9930847af05fa04bf84541d38a9a4dedc8b7c5cd
