From my reading of the emerge log, it looks like the problem is with compiling MySQL support into qt. I have mysql installed on my computer, but the server (mysqld) was not running on my computer at the time of the emerge.

Turns out that there were general problems with my system unrelated to the qt emerge. I received random error messages whenever I tried to do anything. So, I restarted my computer, fixed some file system errors, and then the qt emerge worked no problem. Sorry about the erroneous bug report.
