Emerge scim also emerge m17n-db, m17n-lib and scim-m17n which are NOT require for the proper function of scim. For someone needing only Chinese input emerging scim and the opional scim-chinese is sufficient. 

scim-m17n (which depends on m17n-lib and m17n-db) and scim-chinese are just optional packages that provide different XIM (Xinput methods) to scim and therefore should not be emerge mendatorily with scim.
