Description Mats Persson 2004-08-23 05:56:05 UTC
When emerging java-gnome-2.6.0.1-r1 I get an installation error that it cannot stat the 'api/resources/*'. That directory doesn't exist in the build tree.

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. emerge sync
2. ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="~x86" emerge java-gnome

Actual Results:
/bin/install -c -m644 api/resources/*
/var/tmp/portage/java-gnome-2.6.0.1-r1/image//usr/share/doc/java-gnome-2.6/api/core/resources/
/bin/install: cannot stat `api/resources/*': No such file or directory
make[1]: *** [install] Error 1
make[1]: Leaving directory
`/var/tmp/portage/java-gnome-2.6.0.1-r1/work/java-gnome-2.6.0.1/doc-core'
make: *** [install] Error 1

!!! ERROR: dev-java/java-gnome-2.6.0.1-r1 failed.
!!! Function src_install, Line 43, Exitcode 2
!!! (no error message)

Expected Results:
Installation of java-gnome 2.6.

It seems that this bug has been reported in comments to other bug-reports, but
still haven't been fixed. It completely blocks the install so I wonder how other
people can install it? Maybe I'm missing some important package, or missed
setting an important USE flag. Then I tried with setting default JVM with
java-config to both blackdown and sun-j2sdk, but got the same error. Another
possible reason for the error is that I manually edited the ebuild to change
the ~x86 in KEYWORDS to x86.

'emerge info' gives:
Portage 2.0.50-r9 (default-x86-1.4, gcc-3.3.3, glibc-2.3.3.20040420-r1,

One suggestion I might offer is to try emerging it USE=-doc as the error you got is in the javadoc generation. [I didn't have any problem with this, but it's worth a try]

In a related note, I've been tracking CVS for this for a while, and am working on ebuilds for java-gnome 2.8.2 as the moment. The 2.8 release series fixed a huge pile of bugs, so hopefully you'll have better luck with them. The catch is they also changed the internal layout quite a bit, so it's taking a bit of doing to get the ebuilds right.

I have this same problem. I have tryed the USE="-doc" and then emerge java-gnome but it still fails with the same error.

I followed up with Cookie personally; he ended up trying the new java-gnome 2.8.2 ebuilds, and they worked for him. Might want to try there.

[java-gnome 2.6.x upstream is buggy as hell, so we should just deprecate it and be done wit it]

Since you're our official java-gnome maintainer, I'm shuffling this your way now.
Comment 5 Andrew Cowie 2004-12-20 04:59:25 UTC
Unless anyone objects, I'm going to close this. With Gnome 2.8 stable, there is no longer any reason for java-gnome 2.6 to be around. As mentioned, it's broken as all hell anyway.

Bitch at me in the next 24 hours if you disagree... AfC

Grr. I need more permissions in this bugzilla to actually close bugs. One of these days I'll need to finish that damn quiz.

"Closing" per agreement from user.
