Description Martin Mokrejš 2017-03-23 14:46:59 UTC
It turned out during https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=780421 that Gentoo does not ship correct version of nm-applet compatible with NetworkManager. Please provdie new ebuild and fix the RDEPEND line.

You may also want to bring to us a bugfix patch from https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=780423

net-misc/networkmanager doesn't depend on nm-applet at all since it's an optional frontend, but if there's a known incompatibility then I'd say we at least need to get newer nm-applet stabilized. Mayb even a versioned blocker to keep the versions in line.

I already provided an ebuild for newer nm-applet inbetween your report to upstream and the downstream report now here. Feel free to immediately CC gnome at gentoo dot org on gnome bugzilla for things that should be relevant and considered for us in the future.
There is no nm-applet in network-manager RDEPEND, so I can't do anything about that. But nm-applet-1.4.6+ will go to stable very soon with gnome 3.22.

duh, I just bumped nm-applet 2 hours ago. I'll have to see if it's worth a ~arch revbump before stabilization or not.

Found a CVE fix that upstream apparently doesn't feel worthy doing a release for either, because previous was released so recently or something...
Stabilization ongoing in bug 613768

commit 5c732474a68cdacc6cb2f17d60e7af9982c057f8

gnome-extra/nm-applet: fix CVE-2017-6590, nma bindings and more

Grab patches from upstream nm-1-4 branch for fixing broken NMA bindings,
translations when used in gnome-control-center (gettext domain context issue),
CVE-2017-6590 (a physical access login screen bypass issue with lightdm), and
a certification file error message fix as requested by one of our users specifically.
