Description dieter ferdinand 2017-03-20 11:50:41 UTC
hello,
since my last systemupdate (gentoo-linux) and update to glibc 2.22-r4 i have much problems with the memory-management and if i use some programs witch need much memory (firefox, chromium, java) the programs begin to crash after some time or if i open some more tabs or windows and every time i get a message which says, that there are missing resources or memory.

if i close chromium or firefox, i can work again or i must close windows in one or both browsers.

before i update the system, i can open much more tabs or windows in chrome without proplems, after the update i must close over 50% of my open websites or chrome/chromium crashs at startup.

i don't know, where i must search for this problems, but i think this is a problem from glibc while the problem happens before i update the kernel.

i hope that you can help me.

i use a 32bit kernel 3.18.47 with 16GB ram and while i have this memory-problems, i will try to update to a 64bit system, but will this solve my problems ?

hello,
yesterday chromium crashs many times with out of memory on load.

it is possible that the program use the max allowed memory on a 32bit system, but why stop some wine-tasks working at the same moment with out of memory as chromium crash.

if every process can use at least 2 gb or more of ram, then this should not happen.

I doubt that information that you are provided can be related to any particular package(e.g. chromium) in Gentoo, more like general problem with configuration.

Add some more logs(stacktraces, dmesg output, etc) or try our forums

hello,
that chromium crashs is a problem of chromium because it use too much memory, but that at the same time other programs stop working with out of memory or firefox crash at the same time, that is not a problem from chromium.

that must be a problem of the memory-management which reports no memory to other application if one program need much memory and other applications need memory at the same time.

and it seems, that chromium produce this problem very fast, if it must load all tabs at the start. if i open tabs where chromium is running, i can open more tabs as chromium can open at start. why can chromium use more memory, if the tabs are opened slow and less if it must open the tabs at program-start ?

this is a mysterium and i have no time to analyse it.
