Description Julien Allanos (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2004-08-22 08:38:58 UTC
Bioware provides localized installation files for spain, french, german and italian. It would be great to update the ebuild to take a specific environment variable in account, that would download one of them instead of the default english. Localised files for extensions could also be downloaded, and instructions to install extensions included in the ebuild. Basically, a user should be able to get nwn+sou+hou working in the language of his choice.

1.65 now supports this

Er... how? I've looked around in the ebuild, but I din't find anything...

OK, seems like portage now does it automatically. Are there any ebuilds for hotu or sou?

I`ve used 1.65-r1 ebuild to get a German NWN installation. I gave the flags USE="nocd nowin". The spoken dialogues are still English, while the GUI and the written dialogues are German. Shouldn`t it be 100% German (spoken + written)?

For the future, I

For the future, I´d be happy to see AddOns ebuild, too and it would be great to include the nwn video for Linuc hack into the ebuild, maybe with a new flag like video.

And the nowin / nocd flags might be checked earlier, as the emerge stops in the current ebuild when the CD_ROOT is not correct - but the CD wasn`t necessary in my case. That`s confusing.

Thanks for the great work so far.

i dont actually own nwn so i have no idea what should and shouldnt be localized

most of the nwn stuff is based upon user feedback telling us what is and isnt correct

OK, I will test the different install methodes and compare them to find out which files need update for the German dialogues. I have some data here on my extermal hd from an older nwn german install on SUSE via installer. I hope I can give you some useful information when I finished this job, maybe I can contact the author of the installer, too. But this would take 2 weeks time or so, because I have a lot to do for at the moment... but holidays are not far away.

Don`t want to reopen the bug since I

Don`t want to reopen the bug since I´m not very familar with the bugzilla - maybe someone else could decide whetherthis is useful or not.

(@ SpanKY: I could sent you my German CDs of NWN and NWN SoU for testing perpose, but don`t know whether this is useful or not - depending on the country you are living in [shipping].)
