I tried it again on another machine, it runs ok there... The one where it fails is a IBM TP R40 without a Floppy, can this be the problem?
do you have dosfstools installed? check that you do, or remerge mindi as it was a missing depend.
dosfstools-2.10-r1 were installed... i remerged them and then reemerge mindi-2.03, but i get the same problem about a read-only filesystem: <cut> Creating data disk #1...#2...#3... Done.
