Description Joseph 2017-03-10 04:13:55 UTC
I've upgraded to Hylafaxplus but when I try to send a fax, the modem will not respond and the CPU goes 100%
The process hangs up with:

/usr/sbin/faxq -q /var/spool/fax -D
and the process needs to be kill manually.

Reproducible: Always

I've found some reference to kerenl issue in this post:

http://hylafax-devel.hylafax.narkive.com/k6hH0TNH/bug-637-faxq-100-cpu-usage

-----quote-------------
Your strace shows that:

1) faxq uses select to request of the kernel if data is available for
reading.
2) The kernel returns that yes, there is data available.
3) We read it and act on any messages.
4) Repeat

There is something with this setup which is causing the kernel to
continuously tell us there is something to read, but nothing is read.
-----end quote-------------

My other new system on which I install hylafaxplus-5.5.5
is experiencing same behaviour.

/usr/sbin/faxq CPU usage goes 100%
It seems it thinks the modem is busy as my front end program displays a message:
Waiting for modem on ttyS0 get free (something to this effect)

I've just tried Hylafax-5.5.9 from sourceforge and it displays same behaviour.

faxq - hangs up with CPU going 100%
Comment 3 Joseph 2017-03-11 05:28:45 UTC
Problem SOLVED!

The problem is Hylafaxplus-5.5.5 is not compatible with
media-libs/tiff-4.0.7
The "faxq" hangs up and CPU goes 100%

Downgrading to media-libs/tiff-4.0.6 solved the problem.
So you folks decide what is the problem Hylafax or tiff-4.0.7
Comment 4 SpanKY gentoo-dev 2017-03-31 03:36:35 UTC
looks like a bug in hylafax. libtiff made a change anyways though, and i pulled that into 4.0.7-r1.
