Ah actually, RDEPEND does need jpeg. If you look at the dynamic links for libmng: $ ldd /usr/lib/libmng.so linux-gate.so.1 => (0xffffe000) libz.so.1 => /lib/libz.so.1 (0x4188e000) libm.so.6 => /lib/libm.so.6 (0x41853000) libjpeg.so.62 => /usr/lib/libjpeg.so.62 (0x41ac6000) libc.so.6 => /lib/libc.so.6 (0x41747000) /lib/ld-linux.so.2 => /lib/ld-linux.so.2 (0x80000000)
