Description Jesse Adelman 2004-08-20 14:42:10 UTC
Hi, good Gentoo ebuilders. There's a new ndiswrapper on the loose, and it's purported to have preliminary USB device support (a personal favorite, for those two poor Prism GT 802.11g USB 2.0 devices I have) and SMP support, among other nifty things. Note that the announcement below states that previous ndiswrapper users will need to re-install their Windows drivers. Here's the full text of the announcement:

0.10 is released
2004-08-20 10:56

Ndiswrapper 0.10 is now available from sourceforge. If you are using
an earlier release, you are urged to upgrade to this release.

If you are using a version earlier than 0.10rc1, you should not only
reinstall the driver, but utils as well. Moreover, after installing
the utils, you should reinstall all Windows drivers. This is due to
changes in file kernel/userspace interface changes since 0.9
release. If you fail to do this, kernel module will fail to load.

 Brief changelog since 0.9 release:

 * Preliminary support for USB devices (only a few Prism54 based
devices have been tested under 2.6 kernels).

 * Kernel crash/keyboard lock issues have been fixed.

 * All known issues with Centrino 2200 have been fixed.

 * SMP/HT should work again.

In case you didn"t notice, there is now Wiki at
 http://ndiswrapper.sourceforge.net/wiki . You can find more upto-date
documentation there than at other places. Please also update Wiki with
any information that you think may be useful to others (e.g., if your
card is not listed in List, update it with relevant information).

In this release there is a new tool ndiswrapper-buginfo that collects
useful information about setup of ndiswrapper and store it in
/tmp/ndiswrapper-buginfo.gz. In case you have problems, please attach
that file to your problem description and mail it to the mailing
 list.

We would like to thank all the people that have donated to this
project. Your support helps us buy more devices to improve
 ndiswrapper.

ndiswrapper .10

Version bump
Comment 2 Jesse Becker 2004-08-21 22:36:44 UTC
The first new ebuild for 0.10 is based off an older, incorrect version, and should not be used. Additionally, it does not handle a few new files, and expects a few old ones to exist when they no longer do. I'll attach one shortly.

replacement ndiswrapper-0.10 EBuild file

This ebuild superceeds the other attachment. Aside from the version bump, this
ebuild removes the wlan_radio_averatec_5110hx program (no longer maintained in
this package), and adds the ndiswrapper-buginfo utility program. There's also
a short informational message about the ndiswrapper WIKI at the end.
Comment 4 Jesse Becker 2004-08-21 22:59:42 UTC
One more thing... We probably should remove the ebuilds for ndiswrapper 0.[345], and possibly 0.6 (and -r1) as well.
Comment 5 Jesse Adelman 2004-08-24 14:24:36 UTC
Any chance this will get pushed to ~x86 (unstable) soon? Thanks!
Comment 6 Doug Goldstein (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2004-08-24 21:58:14 UTC
Good job on the new ebuild Jesse. Should be appearing to a local ~x86 near you shortly. Sorry for the wait, been internet-less for the past couple of days.
