Description Andrew C. 2004-08-20 06:21:49 UTC
This problem seems very recent, I've been doing boatloads of installs lately, and this problem seems to have cropped up in the last 3-4 days maybe? All I do is follow the installation guide (exactly even on some installs) and when I hit the mirrorselect bit, I get a line with a crapload of ^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@ followed by the correct information which we want from mirrorselect.

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1.Follow the installation guide
2.chroot as instructed
3.env-update
4.Watch it error on the env-update
5.exit
6.take a look at make.conf and enjoy the utter borkage of that line

Actual Results:
Hehe. I thought I went over that already? I found a line on make.conf ending
with the mirror data and starting with a bunch of ^@'s

Expected Results:
Not flooded my make.conf with nasty symbols.

really. its not that complicated, sure its just a script error or something. If
you truely need more info, you got my email.

The bug isn't gigantemous or anything, you can fix it by going to the end of the
line, holding down the left arrow till the desired info begins under the cursor
press enter to get it onto a new line, go up to the line thats left over filled
with the crap symbols, and control-k it (if you are using nano that is). Fixed.
But, it'd be nice for the newb-crew that use gentoo if it never happened in the
first place.
