Request by Stacy Walker (dosfreak622). Reproducible: Always See Bug #582406.
Too many bugs to add everything as blockers.
I can reluctantly accept this so long as the two conditions dosfreak622 outlined in https://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=582406#c12 are abided by: (1) x11-drivers/ati-drivers remains masked (2) x11-drivers/ati-drivers becomes an OpenCL-only package* * because ati-drivers cannot work with the latest stable x11-base/xorg-server, and it is a burden to backport security fixes to unmaintained versions kept around solely for dead proprietary drivers.
I asked the proxy maintainers about the status of this bug. They typically don't like to make someone the maintainer without having some contributions. I suggest you start by submitting pull requests on github for making ati-drivers OpenCL-only and for supporting more recent kernels (bug 583574).
Looks like there might be a bug for OpenCL-only: bug 562508.
Yes, I plan to tackle the OpenGL-only compile flag. However, I was planning to make sure compatibility exists with newer kernels as my very first step, i.e., Bug #583574. I will be travelling for a couple of days, so I expect I won't actually be able to submit any pull requests until I can test them on my machine (circa 1st March).
Never heard back, and it's been two weeks since March 1st. Package removed.
