There're quite a few cron jobs scheduled on a newly installed system (in fact mine had 3 makewhatis scripts installed from godknowswhere). I dont use slocate or whatever makewhatis is for, but these scripts were installed without my knowledge and leave my computer thrashing away at it's HD for no benefit to me (or i'd imagine most who don't even know what they do). It just seems to go against the gentoo "choice is everything" mantra. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. 2. 3.
From the man ebuild: ewarn "You have multiple makewhatis cron files installed." ewarn "You might want to delete all but one of these:" So...you didn't follow the instructions and now you have multiple makewhatis cron jobs. The base install for Gentoo provides a basic, working linux system. Part of the "choice" of Gentoo doesn't involve "choosing" a non-working system. You *do* have the choice of making your own profile and using that though, if the Gentoo-supplied profiles seem too restrictive.
