The system hangs on boot (before printing any kernel messages). This behaviour is similar to https://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=603470. Like many of the posters at that bug discussion, I am running into this issue on a Thinkpad X220, using UEFI boot. It seems there was a fix found for that package.
This was apparently fixed upstream, but it doesn't appear that this patch is being used. https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=191121
Same issue here. Not using a Thinkpad, actually -- but a Lenovo Z40-70
(In reply to Aric Belsito from comment #2) > Same issue here. Not using a Thinkpad, actually -- but a Lenovo Z40-70 I guess this bug can be marked as confirmed then. It's interesting that only Lenovo machines seem to have this issue.
I did some digging and found that although kernel commit 20b1e22d01a4b0b11d3a1066e9feb04be38607ec has indeed made it into these sources, the problem still exists.
Same for Lenovo Thinkpad Helix 2.
Okay I'm letting upstream know about this. We're not moving onto the 4.9 kernels for a while. Use 4.8.17-r2 for any production systems.
there was a problem with KERNEXEC and UEFI booting, i've fixed it for the next patch.
Apparently UEFI/PARAVIRT issues have been fixed by PaX Team. Time to bump hardened-sources to 4.9.9.
please test hardened-sources-4.9.9 which I just added to the tree.
(In reply to Anthony Basile from comment #9) > please test hardened-sources-4.9.9 which I just added to the tree. I can confirm that hardened-sources-4.9.9 does not have this issue and is working properly.
