Description Miroslav Šulc gentoo-dev 2004-08-18 23:43:48 UTC
When starting KDE (after the initialization splash disappears) KDE panel crashes with error "KDE Panel (kicker) crashed and caused the signal 11 (SIGSEGV)". I use kde-3.3.0_rc2. I have read somewhere that it is usually caused by a crashing applet placed in the panel, but I didn't find out which one it is.

Here is backtrace:

Comment 1 Miroslav Šulc gentoo-dev 2004-08-21 01:55:30 UTC
I have done some testing and found out that the crash is caused by "World Wide Watch" applet in child panel. The problem still exists in kde-3.0.0 too.
Comment 2 Jonathan Hutchins 2004-08-25 12:50:57 UTC
Happens on upgrade to KDE 3.3.

This is a packaging issue, script needs to move/remove/update ~/.kde/share/config/kickerrc - this resolves the problem.
Comment 3 Miroslav Šulc gentoo-dev 2004-08-26 00:46:03 UTC
First I would like to correct my #1. I ment kde-3.3.0 and not kde-3.0.0. Sorry for that.

Well, Jonathan, I'm not sure if you are right. When the KPanel crashed, I have removed the ~/.kde3.3/share/config/kickerrc (~/.kde3.3 is simlinked from ~/.kde) and KDE started with the default KPanel. Then I added one applet, restarted KDE and when the KPanel appeared without error, I added new applet. As I wrote above, everything works fine until I add World Wide Watch applet. When I add this applet, the applet even appears blank without any World Wide Watch. It seems to me that the problem really is in the World Wide Watch applet.

I assume this was http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=92025
which is fixed in 3.3.2.
Reopen if it is not the case.

Not sure if this is appropriate bug, if so close and let me know where/what to report. I experience same problems on kde-3.3.2 on gentoo-sparc64. Have not been able to resolve by simply removing kickerrc.
