I got the same error. It is because of the usage of LibreSSL instead of OpenSSL. I wrote a patch and submitted to upstream: https://github.com/Fedict/eid-mw/pull/30
Fixed in app-crypt/eid-mw-4.2.8 Thanks to Cedric for its fix.
