Disabling the sandbox allowed it to run.

also, fyi, rust itself (1.14.0) fails to install with FEATURES="stricter"
Comment 1 Doug Goldstein (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2017-02-02 19:58:55 UTC
There's more going on here. Because I use the following:

FEATURES="userpriv usersandbox sign network-sandbox ipc-sandbox"

And it builds fine. We have a config generated by Portage which is read by Cargo that prevents it from attempting to do what you're seeing there. And Cargo itself ships with a lockfile that should prevent that. Somehow timestamps got screwy in that directory and it decided things were out of date and it ignored our config file. That's my jump to conclusion.
Comment 2 Matthew Thode ( prometheanfire ) archtester Gentoo Infrastructure gentoo-dev Security 2017-02-09 11:42:16 UTC
Possibly, not sure what it happened really. I ended up disabling network-sandbox back when I first reported this.
Comment 3 tka 2017-06-16 20:12:15 UTC
I could build cargo 0.17.0 with network-sandbox enabled. However, the test suite failed. As for the build failure, github.com could not be resolved.

Comment 4 Jonas Stein gentoo-dev 2018-10-11 19:44:54 UTC
dev-util/cargo-0.15 is no longer in the tree and the bug seems fixed.
Please test with the recent package.
Comment 5 Matthew Thode ( prometheanfire ) archtester Gentoo Infrastructure gentoo-dev Security 2018-10-11 20:18:48 UTC
