Description Hermann Huttler 2004-08-17 23:45:29 UTC
Upgrading from version 1.0.4496-r3 to 1.0.5336-r4 always fails with the error message "nvidia.ko failed to build!" (see below). Kernel module support is enabled. /usr/src/linux points to the kernel version in use.

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:

hmmm *looks very puzzled*

Can you please log the ENTIRE build process and attach it as a plain text file.

The requested log is in the file attached. Thanks for your quick response.

Why is it trying to compile a whole pile of kernel modules?

Are you certain your kernel source is fully compiled?

Are you certain your kernel source is fully compiled?

Well yes, because I'm running this kernel. However it might be that in the mean time I ran make menuconfig and changed one option or two without reinstalling the kernel. Therefore I tried:

a) /usr/src/linux> make
followed by an emerge -u world -> same result as before.

b) /usr/src/linux> make clean; make
followed by an emerge -u world -> still the same result as before.

I just upgraded to kernel 2.6.5-mm6 and the upgrade went flawlessly.
Comment 6 Andrew Bevitt 2004-08-20 02:04:02 UTC
Hmm...

OK there must be something in 2.6.4-mm1 that caused this, but as its no longer in portage im not going to explore any futher, a newer kernel works so im doubly happy.
