Why not make Gentoo support one of those things: http://www.freedesktop.org/Standards/config-spec I think this will make Gentoo not only easier to use, but THE solution to just about everything! Yep, this is cool stuff. However, its not really a "Gentoo" thing, we package and distribute software. It is intended for the desktop projects (KDE Gnome) to support this spec, and we then distribute that software to you. The basis of this, D-Bus, is already available in Portage (masked for testing). I look forward to seeing upstream developers support this spec, and ultimately have these features integrated into Gentoo.
