Yep, do not use 2.6.8 with k3b. 2.6.8 would also break dvd+rw tools. For more information, take a look at the above mentioned link. It seems that the kernel guys are working on it.

Would it be bold to make k3b "block" kernel 2.6.8 until a patch is around? If not, not to worry, as it isn't much of a deal.

An additional thought, shouldn't the kde team be on the CC list?

I was about to post a bug report on this but decided to search!
I've torn my hair out as I moved to udev at the same time. Back 2.6.7 for burning sake.

Least kernel devs, and k3b gang knows about it
Comment 4 Daniel Drake (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2004-08-26 07:25:56 UTC
Kernel patches to fix cdrecord are already included in gentoo-dev-sources, but I don't think this will make k3b work as non-root since it apparently does some direct SCSI access.

Just sit tight, if you use k3b then don't use 2.6.8 right now, and we'll see what 2.6.9 brings. Feel free to update this bug with any progress on resolving the situation.

CC'ing kde to make sure they are aware of this issue.
