I have direct rendering working nice with radeon 9800, but when rebooting the computer locks up with black screen when closing gdm.  Sometimes it does reboot but i cant see the tasks closing as normal.

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1.Rebooting from gdm
2.
3.

Actual Results:  
The computer hangs with black screen with gray stripes

Expected Results:  
reboot normally without freezing

I also notice that it does the same when I do ctrl+alt+backspace from gnome.  maybe it is important to say that my motherborad is a asus P4P800-E

Are you using the ati-drivers package or just the native X11 drivers?  Do you mind attaching your xorg.conf file?

i fix this problem by making some test in the kernel.  my xorg.conf was not the proble because dri was running perfect.  the radeon frame buffer driver in the kernel was causing the problem.  switched to simple vga.  maybe it its possible to use the radeon driver but vga works well.  thanks
