Description Stefan Kiesler 2017-01-11 21:58:29 UTC
/etc/conf.d/lm_sensors coming with current lm_sensors contains the following text:

# NOTE:
# For module loading please use /etc/modules-load.d/lm_sensors.conf

This is misleading. I'm using openrc and don't even have this directory on my harddisk. I first assumed this was a directory specific to lm_sensors, containing the lm_sensors module stuff that was previously listed in /etc/conf.d/lm_sensors itself. Turned out that it's the module loading configuration directory of systemd. As far as I know, systemd is not (yet?) the recommended default on Gentoo, so the note in /etc/conf.d/lm_sensors should also mention /etc/conf.d/modules as the place to add modules when using openrc.

No, this is not misleading. In openrc-0.21.4, a modules-load service was added, which works like the equivalent service in systemd and we are enforcing a openrc version containing this service, see https://gitweb.gentoo.org/repo/gentoo.git/tree/sys-apps/lm_sensors/lm_sensors-3.4.0_p20160725.ebuild#n34

Please see bug 480018 for details why and how we changed lm_sensors.
