Description Matthew M Davis 2004-08-15 12:12:48 UTC
the maildir_header_cache patch is an old version. the patch author asked if i would submit a bug report to the distro maintainer pointing out that the configuration variables related to the patch have changed.

also, he asked that i point out that the /usr/share/doc/mutt-1.5.6-r2/manual.txt file fails to document how this patch integrates with mutt.

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Add "set maildir_header_cache='/path/to/cache'" to .muttrc, OR
2. Add "set header_cache='/path/to/cache'" to .muttrc; THEN
3. run mutt

Actual Results:
Error in /home/mmd/.mutt/muttrc, line 6: header_cache: unknown variable
source: errors in /home/mmd/.mutt/muttrc
Press any key to continue...

Expected Results:
Mutt should start, and create a db file in which to store maildir header
information at the location specified in the .muttrc file. This happens if one
uses the obsolete config variable 'maildir_cache' but does NOT if one uses the
current config variable 'header_cache'

The current header_patch only applies to mutt cvs. I've tried building it with 1.5.6 and it bombs (though the patch applies cleanly). We'll have to wait for either (1) the author to release an updated patch against 1.5.6 or (2) the next version of mutt to be released.

Regarding the doc stuff, it's painful to regenerate the mutt documentation (lots of DEPENDS, some of which aren't even in portage). I will try to update the patch to include the generated documentation so mutt doesn't need lots of stuff to be able to build.

I just backported the current hcache against CVS HEAD back to mutt-1.5.6. Please apply.

Greetings,
      Thomas

Thanks, applied to mutt-1.5.6-r3. I'll leave this bug open in case we figure out the documentation stuff. Right now it's failing for me trying to find "linuxdoc" (when running sgml2html)

Closing now that hcache comes with mutt in 1.5.8 and is included in the prebuilt docs
