This can be worked around by removing rpm. emerge -c app-arch/rpm
Same issue here, thanks @Techwolf for the workaround.
if rpm is needed it's possible to dd the following command to src_prepare() before 'eautoreconf': sed -i -e 's|which rpm |which we_are_gentoo_rpm_is_a_guest |' configure.ac || die it has the same effect as uninstalling/removing app-arch/rpm

Created attachment 469662 [details, diff] patch using Francesco's workaround
hi, few hours ago sys-apps/ipmiutil-3.0.4 has been added to the tree without a fix. The committer is CCed to this bug. May I ask at least a statement explaining why the problem has not been addressed and what could we expect from the future? In the meantime I've added the ebuilds to my overlay: https://github.com/vivo75/vivovl/tree/master/sys-apps/ipmiutil
