All kernels since 2.6.5 oops when booted on popular Intel mainboards (e.g. i865GBF). The bug has been verified by a lot of people (see link). Redhat has already fixed this in their kernel, but the official vanilla sources still don't include this till up to 2.6.8. It would be nice if the Redhat patch (see link) could be merged into gentoo-dev-sources. It works perfectly. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.Have a Intel D865GLC, 865GBF or D875PBZ board ready. 2.Compile a 2.6.5 kernel with SMP, ACPI support enabled.. 3.Compile a 2.6.7 kernel, same config. Actual Results: 2.6.5. will work (probably). Same config with >2.6.7 will crash when booted on certain popular Intel mainboards. Expected Results: Machine should be able to boot up, as regular! Does gentoo-dev-sources (2.6.8) include the fix for this problem? Glancing over the redhat page doesn't really give me a clear answer.
Could you please send the RedHat patch to the upstream kernel.org developers by filing a bug at bugme.osdl.org so the issue can be rectified and the patch can be accepted upstream since the issue is in the underlying kernel.org code rather than the patchset? Thanks!
