Still a problem? Is it just X freezing? Can you ping the machine from another host when it's "frozen"?

Comment 3 Daniel Gulotta 2004-11-13 20:16:41 UTC
I've been away at school since September and haven't been able to update anything since then. In about two weeks I'll have a chance to try the updates. When the problem occurred X, sshd, and the capslock light all stopped responding.
Comment 4 Daniel Gulotta 2004-11-26 16:43:16 UTC
the bug still occurs with firefox 1.0_pre-r2 and gentoo-dev-sources-2.6.9-r4
Comment 5 Daniel Gulotta 2004-12-20 10:46:35 UTC
I had the system freeze once while I was not using Firefox. The freeze occurred when I closed the "Configure Konqueror" dialog. In addition to konqueror, I was running xfce, xfterm, ssh, emerge, xmms, and a simple gtk application.

I was able to reproduce the bug and fix it, by downgrading freetype from 2.1.9 to 2.1.5 on firefox 1.0 and 1.0-r3, but a friend of mine reports, that he has never experienced the aforementioned bug, although he uses firefox 1.0-r3 and freetype 2.1.9
Comment 7 Daniel Gulotta 2005-01-18 13:11:22 UTC
I have been using freetype-2.1.5-r1.
Comment 8 Daniel Gryniewicz (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2005-02-09 14:24:01 UTC
Works fine for me on -r3 with freetype-2.1.5-r1 (which is the stable freetype).
Comment 9 Daniel Gulotta 2005-06-08 16:36:59 UTC
I installed Kubuntu and the system still freezes, so it's not just a Gentoo
problem. I'll try installing FreeBSD to see if it is a hardware problem.
Comment 10 Daniel Gulotta 2005-06-09 18:34:56 UTC
It appears that the freeze is caused by the sis video driver. Switching to vesa
seems to have fixed the problem.
