Did you suggest that change to the bash-completion author? He's very resposive to
patches and i'm not going to start maintaining a patch for the mainscript as long as he adds such features upstream.

Ah, sorry my initial reaction was to go through bugs.gentoo.
I'll dig out an upstream contact and see what happens.

Marked the bug as UPSTREAM accordingly.
