commit c116ae0e559dad258e3cfe8e641d55feab2b634b Author: Justin Lecher <jlec@gentoo.org> Date: Sat Dec 10 12:43:08 2016 +0100 net-libs/zeromq: Backport fix for underlinking Gentoo-Bug: https://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=602230 Package-Manager: portage-2.3.3 Signed-off-by: Justin Lecher <jlec@gentoo.org> https://gitweb.gentoo.org/repo/gentoo.git/commit/?id=c116ae0e559dad258e3cfe8e641d55feab2b634b
I tried the patch from https://gitweb.gentoo.org/repo/gentoo.git/commit/?id=c116ae0e559dad258e3cfe8e641d55feab2b634b , but 'MAKEOPTS=-j1 emerge -v1 zeromq' still fails with: x86_64-pc-linux-gnu-g++ -std=gnu++11 -DHAVE_CONFIG_H -I. -I./src -I./include -I./include -pedantic -Wall -D_GNU_SOURCE -D_REENTRANT -D_THREAD_SAFE -Wno-long-long -march=amdfam10 -O2 -pipe -c -o perf/local_lat.o perf/local_lat.cpp /bin/sh ./libtool --tag=CXX --mode=link x86_64-pc-linux-gnu-g++ -std=gnu++11 -march=amdfam10 -O2 -pipe -Wl,-O1 -Wl,--as-needed -o perf/local_lat perf/local_lat.o src/libzmq.la -lrt -lpthread libtool: link: x86_64-pc-linux-gnu-g++ -std=gnu++11 -march=amdfam10 -O2 -pipe -Wl,-O1 -o perf/.libs/local_lat perf/local_lat.o -Wl,--as-needed src/.libs/libzmq.so -lunwind -lsodium -lrt -lpthread src/.libs/libzmq.so: undefined reference to `dladdr' collect2: error: ld returned 1 exit status make[1]: *** [Makefile:2384: perf/local_lat] Error 1 make[1]: Leaving directory '/var/tmp/portage/net-libs/zeromq-4.2.0/work/zeromq-4.2.0' make: *** [Makefile:4035: all-recursive] Error 1 * ERROR: net-libs/zeromq-4.2.0::x-portage failed (compile phase): * emake failed * * If you need support, post the output of `emerge --info '=net-libs/zeromq-4.2.0::x-portage'`, * the complete build log and the output of `emerge -pqv '=net-libs/zeromq-4.2.0::x-portage'`. * The complete build log is located at '/var/tmp/portage/net-libs/zeromq-4.2.0/temp/build.log'. * The ebuild environment file is located at '/var/tmp/portage/net-libs/zeromq-4.2.0/temp/environment'. * Working directory: '/var/tmp/portage/net-libs/zeromq-4.2.0/work/zeromq-4.2.0' * S: '/var/tmp/portage/net-libs/zeromq-4.2.0/work/zeromq-4.2.0' >>> Failed to emerge net-libs/zeromq-4.2.0, Log file: >>> '/var/tmp/portage/net-libs/zeromq-4.2.0/temp/build.log' root@caiman:/usr/local/portage/net-libs/zeromq(164)# MAKEOPTS=-j1 emerge -pv1 zeromq These are the packages that would be merged, in order: Calculating dependencies... done! Could we please see a build.log which includes the patch?
I've synced the tree right now. zeromq-4.2.0 emerges fine. Is this the same issues as the bug #602244 ?
Looks like, but we will close bug 602244 as duplicate of this bug once we got confirmation from Alessandro.
Created attachment 455990 [details] build.log with zeromq-4.2.0-dl-backport.patch
OK, on systems without libunwind the code the patch adds will never run. However Jürgen's build.log show "checking for LIBUNWIND... yes" so I don't understand why his build.log doesn't show "checking for dladdr in -ldl...". And I don't understand why > # dladdr/dlopen is in libdl on glibc > AC_SEARCH_LIBS([dladdr], [dl dld], [], [ > AC_MSG_ERROR([unable to find the dladdr() function]) > ]) won't be triggered before. @ Jürgen, can you please attach your config.log as well? @ Toralf, are you still experiencing the same issue or was it fixed for you with the patch?

(In reply to Thomas Deutschmann from comment #12) >@ Toralf, are you still experiencing the same issue or was it fixed for you with the patch? no - issue solved
(In reply to Juergen Rose from comment #13) > Created attachment 456700 [details] > config.log with patch Thanks, but unfortunately I am still unable to reproduce your problem. Also, I don't understand your logs. From my view, they don't show what they should show: If you are really using the official Gentoo ebuild your configure output should show something like > checking for ./.git... no > configure: Building stable and legacy API (no draft API) > checking for LIBUNWIND... yes > checking for dladdr in -ldl... yes > checking that generated files are newer than configure... done But your build.log (with dl patch according to your comment) only shows > checking for ./.git... no > configure: Building stable and legacy API (no draft API) > checking for LIBUNWIND... yes > checking that generated files are newer than configure... done Same with your config.log I requested: On all systems where I could test I see something like > configure:23063: checking for ./.git > configure:23077: result: no > configure:23113: Building stable and legacy API (no draft API) > configure:23121: checking for LIBUNWIND > configure:23128: $PKG_CONFIG --exists --print-errors "libunwind" > configure:23131: $? = 0 > configure:23145: $PKG_CONFIG --exists --print-errors "libunwind" > configure:23148: $? = 0 > configure:23192: result: yes > configure:23200: checking for dladdr in -ldl > configure:23225: x86_64-pc-linux-gnu-g++ -std=gnu++11 -o conftest -O2 -pipe -march=ivybridge -mtune=ivybridge -mno-xsaveopt -frecord-gcc-switches -pedantic -Wall -D_GNU_SOURCE -D_REENTRANT -D_THREAD_SAFE -Wno-long-long -Wl,-O1 -Wl,--as-needed conftest.cpp -ldl -lrt -lpthread >&5 > configure:23225: $? = 0 > configure:23234: result: yes > configure:23382: checking that generated files are newer than configure > configure:23388: result: done but your attached file only contains > configure:23063: checking for ./.git > configure:23077: result: no > configure:23113: Building stable and legacy API (no draft API) > configure:23121: checking for LIBUNWIND > configure:23128: $PKG_CONFIG --exists --print-errors "libunwind" > configure:23131: $? = 0 > configure:23145: $PKG_CONFIG --exists --print-errors "libunwind" > configure:23148: $? = 0 > configure:23192: result: yes > configure:23337: checking that generated files are newer than configure > configure:23343: result: done In other words: It looks like you are running without the patch applied or without eautoreconf called. However, Gentoo's ebuild does apply the patch and calls eautoreconf. Now with the feedback from all the other people who reported the problem but said it was resolved for them when Justin added the patch I am going to close this bug as resolved. Feel free to file a new bug once a new revision appear in Gentoo repository (like said I am going to remove the automagic on libunwind in near future) and you still run into the problem. But for the moment, the problem reported by Toralf and others is resolved and the problem you are experiencing must be a local problem with your system only.
