A great new feature of MPlayer >= 1.0pre4 is NSV support. NSV (Nullsoft Streaming Video) is a container format developed by Nullsoft (creators of Winamp) that allows streaming video and audio on low bitrates. The media-libs/win32codecs package doesn't contain all VP codecs as used in NSV. This causes a problem whem playing certain streams using these fairly new codecs. Example: "mplayer http://64.156.25.86:8000/ -cache 2000". The missing files are vp5vfw.dll and vp6vfw.dll. This isn't precicely Gentoo's fault, since these files are not included in the upstream codecs tarballs. Is it possible to temporarily add these missing VP codecs to the win32codecs ebuild untill the MPlayer guys release a new codecs package? OK, just after posting this bug I discovered the MPlayer guys have released a new codecs package. In this new package, version 20040809, the missing codecs as described above are included. So, just see this bug report as an request for an update of media-libs/win32codecs :) Thanks, Niek.
