Description Hal Eisen 2004-08-11 11:14:04 UTC
It doesn't matter what user I run this as (including root!), but both gnocatan-server-console and gnocatan-server-gtk produce this error message immediately after starting:

- 11:09:10 *ERROR* Error creating listening socket: Address family not supported by protocol

---
etcat -v gnocatan

Do you have IPv6 enabled in your kernel?
Comment 2 Hal Eisen 2004-08-11 11:41:08 UTC
No, I don't think I do. Is IPv6 a requirement for Gnocatan?
Comment 3 Chris Gianelloni (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2004-08-11 12:40:18 UTC
No. I was just wondering if it was trying to make an IPv6 socket and failing...
Comment 4 Don Seiler (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2004-08-11 13:06:05 UTC
I've been running servers just fine since it came out on plain old ipv4. That "Address family" thing does look suspicious. But gnocatan doesn't have anything that would enable/disable ipv6 that I can tell.
Comment 5 Don Seiler (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2004-08-11 13:11:18 UTC
Just an FYI you definitely do _NOT_ need to run as root, and probably should never do so.
Comment 6 Hal Eisen 2004-08-11 13:32:12 UTC
And I don't *want* to run it as root -- I was just trying to eliminate possible causes of failure.

I've rebuilt my (2.6.7) kernel with IPv6 turned on, and I'll reboot to see if that helps.
Comment 7 SpanKY gentoo-dev 2004-08-14 23:58:35 UTC
any luck ?
Comment 8 Hal Eisen 2004-08-15 18:23:13 UTC
Yes, having IPv6 made the difference.
