I just emerged mozilla-1.7.2 with the following USE flags set: net-www/mozilla-1.7.2 +crypt -debug -debug -gnome -gtk2 -gtk2 -java -java -ldap +mozcalendar -mozdevelop +moznocompose +moznoirc -moznomail -moznoxft -moznoxft +mozplaintext +mozsvg -mozxmlterm +ssl -xinerama +xprint When trying to compose email, the compose window will not accept *any* input, no matter if I have plaintext or html composing set. It will also not send any email at all. I've tried to forward, reply and send an empty email; mozilla just crashes. emerge info: Portage 2.0.50-r9 (default-x86-1.4, gcc-3.3.4, glibc-2.3.4.20040619-r1, 2.6.7-gentoo-r11) ================================================================= System uname: 2.6.7-gentoo-r11 i686 VIA Samuel 2 Gentoo Base System version 1.5.2 Autoconf: sys-devel/autoconf-2.59-r4 Automake: sys-devel/automake-1.8.5-r1 ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="x86 ~x86" AUTOCLEAN="yes" CFLAGS="-march=c3 -O2 -pipe" CHOST="i586-pc-linux-gnu" COMPILER="gcc3" CONFIG_PROTECT="/etc /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/xkb /usr/kde/2/share/config /usr/kde/3/share/config /usr/lib/mozilla/defaults/pref /usr/share/config /usr/share/texmf/dvipdfm/config/ /usr/share/texmf/dvips/config/ /usr/share/texmf/tex/generic/config/ /usr/share/texmf/tex/platex/config/ /usr/share/texmf/xdvi/ /var/qmail/control" CONFIG_PROTECT_MASK="/etc/gconf /etc/terminfo /etc/env.d" CXXFLAGS="-march=c3 -O2 -pipe" DISTDIR="/tmp/usr/portage/distfiles" FEATURES="autoaddcvs ccache sandbox" GENTOO_MIRRORS="http://gentoo.oregonstate.edu http://distro.ibiblio.org/pub/Linux/distributions/gentoo" MAKEOPTS="-j1" PKGDIR="/tmp/usr/portage/packages" PORTAGE_TMPDIR="/tmp" PORTDIR="/tmp/usr/portage" PORTDIR_OVERLAY="/usr/local/portage" SYNC="rsync://rsync.namerica.gentoo.org/gentoo-portage" USE="3dnow 3ds X X509 Xaw3d aalib acpi acpi4linux activefilter alsa apache2 athena atlas audiofile avi berkdb cddb cdparanoia cle266 crypt cscope cups curl dedicated dga dillo divx4linux djbfft dnd dv dvd dvdread edl emacs encode escreen ethereal f77 faac faad fdftk fftw flac flash fltk fluidsynth fmod foomaticdb gd gdbm ggi gif gimpprint glade gpm gstreamer gtk gtk2 icq idl imagemagick imap imlib imlib2 jabber jack jack-caps jack-tmpfs javascript jpeg ladcca lcms libcaca libwww live lufsusermount mad mbox mcal md5sum mikmod mmx mng motif mozcalendar mozilla moznoirc mozsvg mpeg mpeg4 mpi mplayer msn ncurses net network nogcj nomac objc oggvorbis opengl oscar oss pam parse-clocks pcap pda pdflib perl plotutils png ppds python qt quicktime radeon readline rtc ruby ruby18 sdl skey slp sox speex spell sqlite ssl svg tcltk tcpd tetex theora tiff truetype unicode usb video_cards_radeon videos vim-with-x wmf wxwindows x86 xgetdefault xml xml2 xmms xprint xv xvid yahoo yv12 zlib" Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. emerge net-www/mozilla-1.7.2 2. It appears that USE=mozplaintext disables the editor widget entirely. However it works for me without that flag. I'm testing now with thunderbird to see if it works there or not > When trying to compose email, the compose window will not accept *any* input, no > matter if I have plaintext or html composing set. I found that I had to tab down to the compose window. Or maybe it was the fact that I had to put in a subject. You might try something like that...
thunderbird doesn't work with mozplaintext either. I've disabled that USE flag for both mozilla and thunderbird now.
