It would be nice to seperate the console-based szerver components into a different ebuild without gnome/gtk dependency.

This is a great idea.  I though I had responded to this earlier.  The problem is, AFAIK gnocatan doesn't support a server-only build.  I can't find it in ./configure --help.

Unless you know something that I don't (which is entirely possible), this is a request for upstream.  Let me know what you think.

This has been implemented in gnocatan-0.8.1.37.  To build with console only, have USE="-X".
