Description Erasmo 2004-08-09 13:01:11 UTC
Recently I found a Module for monitor the Apache activity via snmp which I think works really good (http://eplx.homeip.net/mod_apache_snmp/). For the SNMP side if works as a Net-SNMP subagent, and for the apache side as a simple module. It should be great to see this module integrated in the Portage in the near future.

I offer my modest help in to making and/or testing the new ebuild files if required.

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1.
2.

mod_apache_snmp requires the following:
1) extending (adding additional source files) and recompiling net-snmp
2) adding an apache module using apxs2 (unofficial link to apxs2 man page http://sman.informatik.htw-dresden.de/man/ALL/apxs2.html)
3) editing some apache (httpd.conf) and possibly net-snmp (smmpd.conf ) config files

Q: how would an mod_apache_snmp ebuild be set up, as it not only depends on net-snmp, and apache, but also required patching mod_apache_snmp? Would mod_apache_snmp be an option (use variable) of net-snmp? How would the dependency requirement on apache be expressed (i.e,. can dependencey be coniditional upon use variables?) in this case?

I have modified the net-snmp ebuild script on my PORTAGE_OVERLAY directory to download and unpack mod_apache_snmp (basically just step 1 above - 2 and 3 remain to be done). My modifications include mod_apache_snmp unconditionaly rather than using a use variable - not suitable for wide distribution. I am including my modified script (net-snmp-5.1.1-r2.ebuild) for what little time it may save someone.

FYI: link to mod_apache_snmp installation docs in English (http://eplx.homeip.net/mod_apache_snmp/english/index.htm)

Is this any help? More discussion? Chuck?

Re-assign a stale bug.
Comment 4 Benedikt Böhm (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2007-09-09 08:11:16 UTC
www-apache/mod_ap2_snmp-1.04 in cvs now. this does not include any changes to net-analyzer/net-snmp, please reopen and assign to netmon if changes to net-snmp are still required ...
Comment 5 Chris Gianelloni (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2008-08-04 16:34:53 UTC
Ehh... this module is completely useless without the other half. I'm reopening this and will reassign it. I've got a new net-snmp ebuild, too, so I'll attach that.

The ebuild in bug #234036 adds support for the net-snmp side of this package. Without that ebuild, this package is useless, as it only provides one half the functionality. Once that bug is resolved, this one can be, too.
Comment 7 Jeroen Roovers (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2010-01-13 21:06:20 UTC
Is this support still missing from net-analyzer/snmp (5.4.* now)?
Comment 8 Sergey Popov gentoo-dev 2012-10-17 16:36:41 UTC
This package was removed from tree, so closing this as WONTFIX
