I can confirm this. I did an emerge -e world over the week end and I got the same
error. The strange thing is that I had previously emerged it without problem some
time ago and it is the version I am running now. So something broke the ebuild between the time I first installed it and now. If I believe the time stamp on
/usr/bin/gs I last emerged that build on the 23rd of july.

here is my emerge info:

Confirmed, also my system already has 7.07.1 installed:

qpkg -I ghostscript -v
app-text/ghostscript-7.07.1-r1 *

So this is a downgrade. From the Changlog:

---
*ghostscript-7.05.6 (30 Jun 2004)

  30 Jun 2004; Luca Barbato <lu_zero@gentoo.org> +files/gs7.05-gdevhl12.c,
  +ghostscript-7.05.6.ebuild, ghostscript-7.07.1-r1.ebuild,
  ghostscript-7.07.1-r2.ebuild:
  Put back the ghostscript-7.05.6 since the latter won't work on ppc
---

Details?

emerge -u ghoscript

Comment 3 Nick Brown 2004-08-12 09:53:09 UTC
I can also confirm this report.
I'm installing a new PPC system and I'm at the stage of installing KDE, and it requires ghostscript, but I'm getting this;

>> emerge (1 of 52) app-text/ghostscript-7.05.6 to /
>>> md5 src_uri ;-) espgs-7.05.6-source.tar.bz2
>>> md5 src_uri ;-) gnu-gs-fonts-std-6.0.tar.gz
>>> md5 src_uri ;-) gnu-gs-fonts-other-6.0.tar.gz
>>> Unpacking source...
>>> Unpacking espgs-7.05.6-source.tar.bz2 to /var/tmp/portage/ghostscript-7.05.6/work
>>> Unpacking gnu-gs-fonts-std-6.0.tar.gz to /var/tmp/portage/ghostscript-7.05.6/work
>>> Unpacking gnu-gs-fonts-other-6.0.tar.gz to /var/tmp/portage/ghostscript-7.05.6/work
bzip2: Output file /var/tmp/portage/ghostscript-7.05.6/work/espgs-7.05.6/src/gdevhl12.c already exists.

!!! ERROR: app-text/ghostscript-7.05.6 failed.
!!! Function src_unpack, Line 42, Exitcode 1
!!! (no error message)

I think I may go with fluxbox for just now. :-)
Comment 4 Jean Krohn 2004-08-13 11:08:59 UTC
I can confirm as well, I get exactly the same error on ppc g3, being installed from stage2.
Comment 5 Luca Barbato gentoo-dev 2004-08-14 12:51:33 UTC
Should be fixed now, thanks for the notice
