emerges successfully on my box maybe it's a hardware issue
Compiles fine here too, tried on 4 different boxes, wasn't able to reproduce the error. Try reemerging glibc, and then emerge libxml2 again.
internal gcc errors are usually hardware trouble in our experience. Especially because this package is known to work & build on a lot of systems and all of your other buildsettings seem conservative enough. Does it consistently fail at the same spot ?
rebuilding glibc failed with a similar error. Maybe there was a bug during my bootstrap, I will reinstall the system from a stage 2 installation and tell you what happened.
i strongly suggest you check your hardware first, it may be overheating or your memory can be corrupt (use memtest86). Closing this for now, cause i bet it's not a libxml2 problem. Reopen if proven otherwise.
