x32 won't be supported because I would have to build it myself and I don't believe there is great enough demand. Use regular dev-java/icedtea instead, though I admit that might be tricky for Java 8 in future. I don't understand why it's presenting x32 in ABI_X86 because I have set MULTILIB_COMPAT=( abi_ppc_64 abi_x86_{32,64} ) in the ebuild. I'll try to find out what's going on.
thanks for advice, but with dev-java/icedtea I have another problem called "circular dependencies": # emerge -av dev-java/icedtea [ebuild N ~] dev-java/icedtea-7.2.6.7:7::gentoo USE="alsa cups gtk jbootstrap sunec webstart (-cacao) -cjk -debug -doc -examples -headless-awt -infinality (-jamvm) -javascript -kerberos -libressl -nsplugin -nss -pax_kernel -pulseaudio -sctp (-selinux) -smartcard -source {-test} -zero" 54Â 161 KiB [ebuild N ] dev-java/icedtea-web-1.6.1-r1::gentoo USE="nsplugin -doc -javascript -tagsoup {-test}" 0 KiB [ebuild N ] virtual/jre-1.7.0-r2:1.7::gentoo 0 KiB [ebuild N ] dev-java/ant-core-1.9.2::gentoo USE="-doc -source" 0 KiB [ebuild N ] virtual/jdk-1.7.0-r2:1.7::gentoo 0 KiB Total: 5 packages (5 new), Size of downloads: 54Â 161 KiB * Error: circular dependencies: (dev-java/icedtea-7.2.6.7:7/7::gentoo, ebuild scheduled for merge) depends on (dev-java/ant-core-1.9.2:0/0::gentoo, ebuild scheduled for merge) (buildtime) (virtual/jdk-1.7.0-r2:1.7/1.7::gentoo, ebuild scheduled for merge) (buildtime) (dev-java/icedtea-7.2.6.7:7/7::gentoo, ebuild scheduled for merge) (runtime)
Building icedtea isn't entirely straightforward but IIRC you need to emerge gcj-jdk and then ant-core manually first because Portage gets confused. Once you have an x32 icedtea, you can ditch the gcj stuff. You can't use gcj to build icedtea-3 (Java 8) directly but you can build icedtea-7 (Java 7) and then use *that* to build icedtea-3. Be sure to hang onto your icedtea build because gcj is going away in gcc 7.
hmm, not much better way recompiling gcc with gjc flag .. done but than it falls on ecj-gcj >>> Compiling source in /var/tmp/portage/dev-java/ecj-gcj-4.4.2/work ... * bootstrapping ecj with gcj ... * building ecj with bootstrapped ecj ... Annotation processing got disabled, since it requires a 1.6 compliant JVM * building native ecj-4.4 library, patience needed ... gcj: error: libgcj.spec: No such file or directory
(In reply to Pavel Riha from comment #5) > gcj: error: libgcj.spec: No such file or directory Perhaps this is x32-related though it should work. If it were gcc 5 (or 6) then I would have guessed that it's broken in those versions but you're using 4.9.3 like I do on my build systems. I have this file: /usr/lib/gcc/x86_64-pc-linux-gnu/4.9.3/libgcj.spec You must be missing: /usr/lib/gcc/x86_64-pc-linux-gnux32/4.9.3/libgcj.spec
Yes, I'm missing it. but I found file of that name here: /usr/lib/gcc/x86_64-pc-linux-gnux32/4.9.3/32/libgcj.spec
From searching around, I can see that gcj is supposed to work under x32 but I don't know why it isn't here and I don't have the time to look into it, especially when we're planning to drop gcj. It is hoped that it will be possible to build icedtea-3 using something else like JamVM in future but this isn't certain. Until then, you really have to use gcj or grab some prebuilt x32-based JDK from somewhere else and convince Gentoo to use it for building. Drop by on IRC if you're serious about trying this as it really falls outside the scope of this bug. I've discovered that you have to put MULTILIB_COMPAT before inherit in order for it to take effect so I've committed a change to icedtea-bin. Can you please tell me what the effect is on your system? Does it say that icedtea-bin is now masked?
after emerge --sync the situation looks the same. tryind to merge netbeans offer stil dev-java/icedtea-bin looks everything too complicated, my efford to test X32 platform is going to it's end, I think. Can't emerge even firefox&thunderbird, so it's unusable for desktop. Before I delete the partition, I will give a try for apache&php, maybe is it good for virtual servers (thanks we dont use java on servers)
I guess I need to mask it in the x32 profile. The current list is surprisingly short with just 2 packages, I expect much more doesn't actually work. And that's because many developers, myself included, really felt that x32 was far too late. By that time, everyone had more RAM and nobody cared any more. I also heard that some of the design choices hampered its compatibility.
dev-java/icedtea-bin-7.2.6.7 is gone. closing.
