Description Vit Pelcak 2016-09-18 17:44:34 UTC
Hello.

I have the latest genkernel-next.

It proved to be really unreliable. How I understand it, it saves config in /usr/share/genkernel/arch/x86_64/kernel-config and then different versions like /etc/kernels/kernel-config-x86_64-4.7.4-gentoo.

I guess I understood it wrong, because after I do some changes, those are saved in neither file and other changes seem to be forgotten.

I compiled kernel 4.7.3 with ondemand scheduler as default using genkernel-next abut 4.7.4 was compiled with performance scheduler again.

All changes I do by genkernel --menuconfig all.

cat /etc/genkernel.conf

OLDCONFIG="yes"
MENUCONFIG="no"
NCONFIG="no"
CLEAN="yes"
MRPROPER="yes"
MOUNTBOOT="yes"
SAVE_CONFIG="yes"
USECOLOR="yes"
PLYMOUTH="yes"
PLYMOUTH_THEME="breeze"
GK_SHARE="${GK_SHARE:-/usr/share/genkernel}"
CACHE_DIR="/var/cache/genkernel"
DISTDIR="/var/lib/genkernel/src"
LOGFILE="/var/log/genkernel.log"
LOGLEVEL=1
DEFAULT_KERNEL_SOURCE="/usr/src/linux"
COMPRESS_INITRD_TYPE="best"

It looks to me as a bug. Or did I do it wrong?

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. genkernel --menuconfig all
2. do changes to setup
3. save changes
4. check whether these were applied and saved in the config file.
Actual Results:
Changes are not saved in the config.

I am always, as example, for update from 4.6.6 to 4.6.7, copy /etc/kernels/kernel-config-x86_64-4.6.6-gentoo to /usr/src/linux/.config, then run 'make oldconfig'. And, after what, copy /usr/src/linux/.config to /etc/kernels/kernel-config-x86_64-4.6.7-gentoo.

are you still suffering this with version 66?

Hello.

I'm using version 65 and it seems to be working properly.

Feel free to close this bug.
Thank you.
