When installing jekyll via gem, the file exe/jekyll to generate sites is installed: $ tree .gem/ruby/2.2.0/gems/jekyll-3.2.1 ├── exe │ └── jekyll ├── lib │ ├── jekyll ... This file is not installed by the gentoo ebuild. This way the package is not really usable except maybe from another ruby script. There should probably also be a script in /usr/bin as for example with dev-ruby/bundler.
It was already mentioned in a different bug, still thanks for the report! commit f04a1b8b82b0d87795ffc8885251f99ffd18606e Author: Manuel Rüger <mrueg@gentoo.org> Date: Sat Sep 17 03:34:27 2016 +0200 www-apps/jekyll: Install jekyll binary again Patch by Nicolas Porcel Gentoo-Bug: #592990 Package-Manager: portage-2.3.0
