What if you boot with the SMP kernel?
I have tried smp kernel and the boot process continues and passes the firewire module. But then it hangs at the device management daemon. So I have also tried other options and found out I have to use nousb to pass the device management daemon and also use nodetect to prevent it from hanging at the configuring devices process. So I am able to use LiveCD 2004.1 with my laptop HP Compaq nx9010 by using the following boot: options. smp nousb nodetect I don't know why but it works
You mean 2004.2?
Of course I meant LiveCD 2004.2. Finally I gave up this version for installing my HP Compaq nx9010 notebook. Because after using the 'key' boot options nousb and nodetect 2004.2 again stops booting... this time when it is busy with filesystems :-( So I end up using 2004.1 which boots with no problems at all. During installation I used stage3 from release 2004.2 and kernel 2.6.8-gentoo-r1. Everything works well so I assume there must be something wrong with kernel and/or modules used in LiveCD 2004.2
William: enjoy 2004.1... GES: have you tried the SMP kernel?
Chris: Yes, I tried 2004.2 SMP kernel and everything OK! I installed successful Gentoo with it. Gentoo appeals to me.
Awesome... thanks for the report! The next release will only have a single kernel, so this shouldn't occurr anymore.
