I am filing this bug based on information from Gentoo-Users and not my own specific knowledge about the subject. If I am mistaken then please jsut give me some guidance and then close the bug. I'm definitely a bit confused. The problem is that modprobe.conf on my system appears to have incorrect contents for Alsa. I'm attaching /etc//modules.d/alsa, along with the files created by running modules-update. The modules.conf file has the correct Alsa stuff while the modprobe.conf does not, and for whatever reason seems to have a Sound Blaster. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. run modules-update 2. Look at the generated files Actual Results: Attached. Expected Results: The contents of /etc/modules.d/alsa should be in modprobe.conf like they are in modules.conf flash root # emerge info Portage 2.0.50-r9 (default-x86-2004.0, gcc-3.3.3, glibc-2.3.3.20040420-r0, 2.6.6) ================================================================= System uname: 2.6.6 i686 Mobile Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 3.06GHz Gentoo Base System version 1.5.1 Autoconf: sys-devel/autoconf-2.59-r4 Automake: sys-devel/automake-1.8.3 ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="x86" AUTOCLEAN="yes" CFLAGS="-O2 -march=pentium4 -pipe -fomit-frame-pointer" CHOST="i686-pc-linux-gnu" COMPILER="gcc3" CONFIG_PROTECT="/etc /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/xkb /usr/kde/2/share/config /usr/kde/3.2/share/config /usr/kde/3/share/config /usr/lib/mozilla/defaults/pref /usr/share/config /usr/share/texmf/dvipdfm/config/ /usr/share/texmf/dvips/config/ /usr/share/texmf/tex/generic/config/ /usr/share/texmf/tex/platex/config/ /usr/share/texmf/xdvi/ /var/qmail/control" CONFIG_PROTECT_MASK="/etc/gconf /etc/terminfo /etc/env.d" CXXFLAGS="-O2 -march=pentium4 -pipe -fomit-frame-pointer" DISTDIR="/usr/portage/distfiles" FEATURES="autoaddcvs ccache sandbox" GENTOO_MIRRORS="http://mirror.tucdemonic.org/gentoo/ ftp://ftp.gtlib.cc.gatech.edu/pub/gentoo http://mirror.gentoo.gr.jp http://www.zentek-international.com/mirrors/gentoo/" MAKEOPTS="-j2" PKGDIR="/usr/portage/packages" PORTAGE_TMPDIR="/var/tmp" PORTDIR="/usr/portage" PORTDIR_OVERLAY="/usr/local/portage" SYNC="rsync://rsync.gentoo.org/gentoo-portage" USE="X aalib alsa apm avi berkdb cdr crypt cups dvd dvdr encode esd fluidsynth foomaticdb gdbm gif gimp gimpprint gphoto2 gpm gtk gtk2 guile imlib jack jack-tmpfs java jpeg libg++ libwww mad mikmod mmx motif mozcalendar mozilla mpeg ncurses nls oggvorbis opengl oss pam pdflib perl png ppds python qt quicktime readline sdl slang spell sse ssl svga tcltk tcpd tetex truetype usb video_cards_radeon x86 xml2 xmms xv zlib" flash root #
