Arch testers, please try out media-libs/freeglut. It is intended to be a drop-in replacement of media-libs/glut, so I've CC'ed all arches listed in that package. Thanks.
Added to ~ppc. Thanks for the heads-up.
~sparc tasty. shouldn't ebuilds like x11-misc/xplanet depend on the glut virtual?
~ia64
amd64, hppa, mips, alpha, arm: PING
added ~amd64
Added ~hppa to KEYWORDS.
alpha, arm, mips: still waiting on you (2 months later). ppc64, macos: try it out. I want to get this thing stabled so we can make it the default virtual.
Spyderous, will adding glut to use.mask be sufficient for now? If so, I'll go that direction on mips. It seems like even software opengl stuff dies a horrible death on mips. Sorry for not getting to this faster.
arm KEYWORD
Sure, Stephen, as long as you don't keyword anything with virtual/glut hidden behind opengl USE flag (which you may also want to mask if what you say is the case). In that case, could you also remove mips from the media-libs/glut KEYWORDS? If one works, the other should. If one doesn't, neither should the other. Quick list of packages probably depending on virtual/glut: dev-lang/ghc dev-lang/ghc-bin dev-lang/hugs98 dev-lang/pike dev-python/pyopengl games-action/chromium games-action/glaxium games-action/parsec games-action/poopmup games-action/tuxkart games-board/r-katro games-fps/blackshades-cvs games-puzzle/construo games-puzzle/kiki games-puzzle/neverball games-roguelike/scourge games-rpg/vegastrike games-simulation/gl117 games-simulation/stoned-bin games-sports/billardgl games-sports/foobillard games-sports/gracer games-sports/torcs games-util/atlas kde-base/kdegraphics media-gfx/freewrl media-gfx/nvidia-cg-toolkit media-libs/freeglut media-libs/gle media-libs/gltt media-libs/glut media-libs/lib3ds media-libs/mesa media-libs/mesa-glu media-libs/openvrml media-libs/plib x11-misc/3dfb x11-plugins/epplets
Alpha keyworded.
compiles fine on ppc64 using gcc-3.4.1. But how to test it? ;-) Markus
Try running some app that depends on it, such as chromium, billardgl, torcs or blackshades-cvs.
took some time... had to patch openal to allow compilation on ppc64... finaly chromium compiles and runs... (with more or less 10 FPS on my G5 ... :-/ ) so I guess that freeglut can be marked stable. Markus
added ~ppc64 keyword. Markus
Marked ~mips. Seems to work, albeit probablly too slow to be useable. ;)
Closing because everyone that keyworded glut has gotten this.
