Description Peter Dedecker 2004-07-31 16:29:19 UTC
If you follow the guide to install gimp-print and you don't have "gimpprint" in your use-flags, you can't print in The Gimp, but that possibility isn't included in the howTo. It's explained at http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic.php?t=195630, so could you just include that information in the howto? It would help a lot of people. (I had the same problem) Thanks!

Fixed in CVS, thanks.

Also needs to go into /usr/portage/profiles/use.desc
because I just looked there for such a critter and
didn't find it. I'm in the process of scanning
these bug reports to find out how to get gimp 2
to print and ran across this bug report. This
info belongs in use.desc

Put another way, shouldn't /usr/portage/profiles/use.desc
list all possible USE flags? If not, where am I
supposed to look for a comprehensive list of USE
flags?

Thanks

I tried to re-emerge gimp and gimp-print with the USE flag
set as noted in this chain and in the referenced URL
without success. Email me if you want me to provide the
full emerge info output. My emerge was:
  emerge gimp-print gimp-freetype gimp
to force re-emerge. My /etc/make.conf includes:
USE="acpi alsa apm bonobo cups curl dba dbm doc foomaticdb freetds gb gd gphoto2gimpprint gnome gtk2 gtkhtml guile imap java jikes junit -kde -ldap libwww maildir mozilla mysql odbc oggvorbis oss pam perl php plotutils postgres ppds python ruby samba sasl session soap ssl tcltk tiff truetype usb wavelan wxwindows X xml xmlrpc zlib"

I don't know what's blocking gimp from finding the print
mechanism. Frustrating that gimp 2 is broken. To print
I end up saving under 2 and then loading under gimp 1.2
which is still on my box and prints fine.

Do you really lack a space between your gphoto2 and gimpprint use flags? If so, that may be your problem.
