 * Starting named...
named: -u not supported on Linux kernels older than 2.3.99-pre3 or 2.2.18 when using threads

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:

2.
3.

The system has up-to-date sync.

do you have default capabilities defined in your kernel (under security options)?

I do not see this error, 2.6.8_rc2 kernel with default capabilities.

note: I also removed the --with-libtool line from the ebuild since it prevented all the libraries from being installed on my machines unless I was prepared to keep running revdep-rebuild over and over. If the above does not work, this may be the trick but I really suspect it's the default capabilites which are being tested for in the binary.
