do you have default capabilities defined in your kernel (under security options)? I do not see this error, 2.6.8_rc2 kernel with default capabilities. note: I also removed the --with-libtool line from the ebuild since it prevented all the libraries from being installed on my machines unless I was prepared to keep running revdep-rebuild over and over. If the above does not work, this may be the trick but I really suspect it's the default capabilites which are being tested for in the binary.
