Hi, After emerging pycharm-community ebuild, pycharm-community complaints of not having java 1.8 installed at runtime. Can this be set as a requirement in the ebuild? Thanks! José.

The ebuild already has RDEPEND=">=virtual/jre-1.8".
Hi, That might not be the problem then: emerge -pv =virtual/jre-1.8 These are the packages that would be merged, in order: Calculating dependencies... done! emerge: there are no ebuilds to satisfy "=virtual/jre-1.8". This doesn't prevent the merge to happen. Thanks! José.
José Pekkarinen, it seems a user java-vm is not selected. Try to choose one ("eselect java-vm set user <java-vm number>" under a user).
According to this output, setting the user vm is not enough: pekkari@ant ~ $ eselect java-vm set user 2 pekkari@ant ~ $ eselect java-vm list Available Java Virtual Machines: [1] icedtea-7 system-vm [2] icedtea-8 user-vm pekkari@ant ~ $ su Password: ant pekkari # exit pekkari@ant ~ $ pycharm-community Unsupported Java Version: Cannot start under Java 1.7.0_111-b01: Java 1.8 or later is required. pekkari@ant ~ $ Thanks! José.
Does setting the system-vm to icedtea-8 make pycharm to start?
I can confirm the same bug when installing pycharm-community 2016.3.2 Pycharm community comes with its own JRE. The problem is the ebuild is not setting permissions properly for /opt/pycharm-community/jre/jre. All .so files, file directories, and files in /opt/pycharm-community/jre/jre/bin need execute (a+x) permissions. Giving a+x permissions fixed startup for me. The corresponding ebuild line 33 needs to be updated: fperms a+x /opt/${PN}/bin/{pycharm.sh,fsnotifier{,64},inspect.sh} The alternative is to set JDK_HOME environment variable before running pycharm-community if you want to use Gentoo's JRE rather than the embedded JRE: ~ $ JDK_HOME=`java-config -O` pycharm-community
