Description Jakob Schiotz 2004-07-29 12:08:21 UTC
I use kernel 2.6.7 with ALSA sound (snd_intel8x0). It works fine right after booting, but after using the computer for an hour or so then sound stops working. Stopping and starting /etc/init.d/alsasound does not fix the problem.

The only "unusual" thing we do with our sound system is the modem, where we use the Linuxant commercial driver. However, the problem does not occur in connection with using the modem, although I cannot say for sure if it occurs in cases where the modem has not been used earlier.

The problem appeared between kernel 2.6.5 and 2.6.6 but is also present in 2.6.7. Of course many other things have been upgraded as well.

The hardware is a Dell laptop (Inspiron 5150).

Reproducible: Sometimes
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Boot the laptop
2. Use it for an hour for typical office work.
3. Try to do anything requireing sound.

Since you're experiencing this on kernel.org sources, there's not much we can do about this. Can you please file a bug at http://bugme.osdl.org? Note, the upstream kernel developers may not be able to help you since I'd assume the Linuxant commercial drivers would taint the kernel map. I'd recommend you do some further testing to see if you get the issue without the driver as well.
