The ebuild media-video/qc-usb does not call depmod -a after the installation, which makes it appear that the installed driver does not work.. (in fact, I posted a message on the qc-usb mailing list already..)

only does it for 2.4 kernel. see /usr/sbin/update-modules and the actual ebuild itself.
