dev-cpp/glibmm-2.44.0, which is the stable version on PPC (32-bit) fails to build because dev-libs/libsigc++-2.6.2, which is the stable version of that package for PPC, is too new for it, see report 573476 Using glib and glibmm from testing (2.46.4) solves the issue. This same issue happens with atkmm, and possibly other -mm packages. emerge -pqv dev-cpp/glibmm: [ebuild N ] dev-cpp/glibmm-2.44.0 USE="-debug -doc -examples {-test}" emerge --info: Portage 2.2.26 It looks like Ago stabilized libsigc++ by early or by accident (even with the wrong bug number) - https://gitweb.gentoo.org/repo/gentoo.git/commit/dev-libs/libsigc++/libsigc++-2.6.2.ebuild?id=449fd871f9ae6f4a3253524d1b4237c3c0eed8bd
If you have a ppc setup , maybe it would be easier to test the full list of packages to be stabilized on ppc (bug 584468) and finally get it done ;)
(In reply to Pacho Ramos from comment #3) > If you have a ppc setup , maybe it would be easier to test the full list of > packages to be stabilized on ppc (bug 584468) and finally get it done ;) Sure, though I wonder what all goes into the stabilization process? I'm pretty new to Gentoo when it comes to contributing (this is my first ever bug report for Gentoo), would you mind sharing some resources?
I would do something like this: # wget "https://bugs.gentoo.org/attachment.cgi?id=438486" (to fetch the stabilization list) # emerge -1av $(for i in $(grep "ppc " attachment.cgi\?id\=437550 |cut -d " " -f1); do echo =$i; done) (this will extract the part for "ppc " arch and append a "=" before every instance to be used by emerge directly) After this, emerge will autounmask the needed packages, and will merge them. Then, you will have the new packages in your system for using them and, once you are done (and you report in bug 584468 that they are working ok for you on ppc ;)), you will be able to clean all the cruft simply running "emerge -a --depclean" (hence the importance of the -1 option in the emerge command I show you before) Thanks!
The situation has now be long fixed. Closing.
